5 Scriptural Prayers for Peace of Mind and Soul
Have you ever received a valuable gift you never used? I have!
Approximately ten years ago, I told my husband I needed a camera to take pictures of my patients’ oral lesions for clinical documentation purposes. My awesome husband bought me an expensive camera fitted with special lenses for intraoral images, and yours truly never took the time to learn how to use the camera.
Jesus said He has given us His peace. But are we enjoying His gift or ignoring it?
If you are a believer, then, when you put your faith in Jesus Christ, you became a child of God. Your old spiritual nature died, and you became a new spirit being in Christ.
The Holy Spirit, God’s Spirit, moved into your spirit and took up permanent residence. God is the God of peace. Therefore, His peace took up permanent residence within you. But we can choose to either ignore or rest in His peace.
As we stay yielded and connected with God, His peace flows like living waters to restore our souls and enable us to live in peace with others.
The closer you are to God – spending time with God, talking to Him, listening to Him, meditating on His Word, and obeying Him, the more peace you will have.
I have shared five Scriptural prayers for peace of mind below.
Meditate on them, and take them like medicine – regularly and consistently. Use them when you feel peaceful. Remind yourself of these truths while you are anxious. Then, follow through by obeying the directions in the Word on experiencing the peace of God on a continual basis.
Grace and peace be multiplied to you.
Until next time…

Jesus’ Peace
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not be afraid.” John 14:27 NIV
Jesus has already given me the gift of peace; therefore, I have peace. Because I have His gift, I have no reason to be troubled.
However, I have a part to play in whether I live in peace or mental chaos. I do not have to default to anxiety or fear. Instead, when anxiety seeks to lay hold of me, I will answer it with Christ’s peace that is resident within me. I choose to say “no” to every distraction, sin, and weight that opens the door of my mind to turmoil. I will no longer depend on validation, accolades, perfect circumstances, or anything outside Christ for my sense of peace.
Prayer
Lord, teach me through the Holy Spirit to practice Your peace. Let an indicator go off in my mind to remind me to activate Your peace through prayers and meditation on Your Word. Help me, Lord, be conscious of Your peace and self-controlled in my emotions. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
Cast Your Anxiety
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.” 1 Peter 5:7-9 NIV
DEFINITION OF CAST: An act of throwing something forcefully.
A mind weighed down with burdens and anxiety is prey for the enemy because faith in God becomes clouded by disappointment with the past, irritation with the present, or fear of the future.
I can choose to meditate on my circumstances, or I can choose to cast it to my Father, who loves me dearly.
I choose today to throw my cares with intention to God. I will take my random thoughts captive and fix my thoughts on Jesus instead. I will diligently find Scriptures that relate to my circumstances and meditate on God’s promises.
I take a faith stance. I refuse to be tossed around by the devil when Jesus has already gifted me victory. I will not take the freedom I have in Christ for granted.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, remind me to cast my cares when I hold them dear to my heart and mull over them. I choose to walk in the Spirit, not the flesh. Amen!
Come to Jesus and Find True Rest
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NIV
I will run to Jesus before talking to others about problems. I will go to Him because He has the answers.
I will abide in Christ through prayer, spend time in His Word, and depend on Him to teach me His way of peace.
Success does not equate to stress. Therefore, I will create margin in my life so that Jesus is not squeezed out. I will not be puffed up, but I choose to humble myself and find true rest in Jesus.
Prayer
Lord, teach me humility. Grant me the wisdom to lay down my agenda, abide in You, and rest in Your peace. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
Fix your Thoughts
“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord GOD is the eternal Rock.” Isaiah 26:3-4 NLT
My peace will not come from my circumstances, and I cannot afford to depend on myself, my family, friends, career, or finances for peace.
If I fix my thoughts on God, I will be in perfect peace. On the other hand, if I allow other things to distract and cloud my mind, I will reap confusion and turmoil. If I treat the Word casually, peace will elude me. Therefore, I commit to spending time in Your Word and prayer daily.
As I go about my day, I will meditate and think about Your greatness and splendor, trusting in Your unfailing faithfulness.
Everything else in this world is like shifting sand, but You, Lord, are my eternal Rock.
Prayer
Help me, Lord, to keep my thoughts on You. Give me, Lord, a passion and an appetite for Your Word. Open my eyes to see the wondrous truths and treasures in Your Word, strengthen my heart as I trust You, and step out boldly to be all You created me to be. Amen!
Let Peace Rule
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.” Colossians 3:15 NIV
A ruler is someone who governs and makes leadership decisions. The Greek word for rule in this specific verse is brabeuetō, which means to act as arbiter in games. Similar to the way an umpire or referee officiates, moderates, and calls the shots during athletic competitions. [SOURCE]
I already have the peace of Christ resident within me, but do I consistently allow it to rule my thoughts, emotions, and actions, or do I choose my own way instead?
When I read through the entire chapter of Colossians 3, I see God inviting me to live my life and interact with others in a way that reflects my intimate relationship with the Prince of Peace Himself.
He invites me in Colossians 3:9-10 to put off my old sinful nature and put on my new, redeemed born-again nature. Verses 12 -14 remind me to clothe myself with compassion, forgive those who have grieved me, and love others unconditionally.
When I yield myself to obey Colossians 3 through the power of the Holy Spirit, the peace of Christ resident in my heart rules over my thoughts and emotions. His peace overflows from me to affect my interpersonal relationships as I interact with other Christians and invite non-Christians to experience the peace of God.
Prayer
Lord, I thank You that You have called me to peace. Today, I hear Your voice, believe You, and commit to obey You. I pray that according to Your Word, Your peace will rule in my heart, driving out anxiety, worry, strife, and anything else that does not glorify You. I pray that Your peace will govern my relationships and interaction with fellow believers as we build and uplift each other. And I pray that You will use me as Your vessel of reconciliation to invite others into Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
