Freedom by the power of The Holy Spirit
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Corinthians 3:17
I started a series on the ministry of the Holy Spirit; an absolutely unplanned turn of events that has been flowing out of what God has been teaching me lately through His Word about the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is One with the Father and the Son
I’ll like to start today’s post by reminding you that God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are ONE and operate in unity with each other. This means that is not possible to fully separate God or Jesus from the Holy Spirit. This is evident from the Scripture above which states that “The Lord IS the Spirit.” Therefore, the ministry of the Holy Spirit is in unity with God’s purpose and Jesus’ ministry (John 14:16-17, John 10:30, Matthew 28:19).
God took the form of a man, dwelled among us and paid the price for our sins by sacrificing his life on a cross (Philippians 2:5-8, Colossians 2:9, 1 Peter 2:24, Hebrews 1:3, 1 Peter 3:18). The result is that our sins are forgiven, we have a love relationship with God, we share in His divine nature and we have the hope of spending eternity with God in heaven (Ephesians 1:7, 1 John 4:10, Ephesians 4:2, 2 Peter 1:4, John 3:16).
But what happens between now and heaven?
How can we live a victorious life and operate in the supernatural while living here on earth?
The good news is that Jesus did not leave us as orphans. He sent us another Advocate just like himself to dwell in us and be with us (John 14:16, 1 Corinthians 6:19).
The Holy Spirit is the One who takes everything God has given us in Christ Jesus and makes them a reality in our lives today!!
Since Jesus Christ has set us free (“If the Son sets you free you will be free indeed” John 8:36), the Holy Spirit empowers us daily to walk in the freedom that God has provided through Christ.
Freedom in Jesus Christ starts from salvation and extends into eternity.
For “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom” (2 Corinthians 3:17).
The Holy Spirit therefore empowers you with the freedom to walk in your new life in Christ.
Freedom from the requirements of the law and our futile attempts at self-righteousness
However, to the one who does not work (i.e. does not depend on his own acts of righteousness) but trusts God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness. Romans 4:5
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21
But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. Romans 8:10
Freedom from condemnation, sin and death
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:1-2
And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of His Spirit who lives in you. Romans 8:11
So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. 1 Corinthians 15:45
Freedom from the hold of Satan
You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 1 John 4:4
Freedom to be transformed into the image of Christ with evidence of his power, love and authority
And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:18
Freedom to walk in power and boldness
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7
The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again. Romans 8:15a
Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold. 2 Corinthians 3:12 (Read verses 7-18 for context.)
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8
Freedom to walk in love
And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. Romans 5:5
Freedom to live a holy and fruitful life
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-25
Conclusion
Jesus has paid the price for you on the cross. You have been redeemed and set free into a spacious and victorious life. He didn’t sacrifice his life for you to remain bound to sin and defeat. Yes, there will be challenges and difficulties in life (that’s a certainty), but we do not go through them as defeated soldiers but as victors in Christ Jesus because THE SAME SPIRIT THAT RAISED CHRIST FROM THE DEAD LIVES IN US!!
My prayer for you is that the Holy Spirit will reveal and illuminate God’s Word to you so that you may live a victorious and fruitful life that brings honor to God as you are transformed into the image of Christ from glory to glory.
AMEN!!
