We are God's Masterpiece (step out in faith and live like one!)

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10 NLT

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10 NIV

When I am tempted to doubt or forget my worth, this awesome Scripture, which the Holy Spirit inspired, reminds me that:

I belong to God – “For we are God’s”
I am God’s masterpiece– “For we are God’s masterpiece.”
God created me – “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us..”
God (the Creator of the whole universe) not only created me, BUT it’s even better – He created me brand new in Christ Jesus– “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus,”
God created me for a purpose – “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things.”
I am not running my life; God is– “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10 NLT

We are God’s Masterpiece

Dictionary.com defines a masterpiece as “a person’s greatest piece of work,” in other words, something of great value and worth. God’s perspective is that we are of great price and value to Him because of who we are in Christ. If God, the Creator of the whole universe, says so, then so it is!

As born-again children of God, our old sinful nature was crucified on the cross with Jesus Christ. We are now new creatures in Christ Jesus (Romans 6:6; 2 Corinthians 5:17).

What are Good Works?

Doing good works means that we yield ourselves completely to Jesus Christ, die to our selfishness, and allow God to direct our lives and use us for His purpose.

God created us in Christ for good works. Not works that attempt to produce salvation (we are saved by His grace alone Ephesians 2:8) but works that result from our relationship with God through Christ Jesus. Good works that bring glory to God as we reflect the nature of Christ to our world by expressing the love of God, bearing the fruit of the Spirit, and walking in the power and goodness of God.

We are one-of-a-kind masterpieces on special assignments that reflect our specific gifts, talents, and skills. We are God’s workers. Every believer has a spiritual gift with which they are to serve. The Holy Spirit directs and empowers us as we use our gifts. God designed it that way so that we can shine in a unique and authentic manner as we serve Him and meet one another’s needs.

At the end of the day, we will all have to stand before God and give an account of how we lived our lives by allowing the light of Christ to shine through us since becoming saved (1 Corinthians 3:12-15).

So, I encourage you to see yourself as someone with infinite value, a masterpiece created anew in Christ Jesus to bring glory to God. Then, step out in faith to do the works that God has placed in your heart to accomplish through the power of the Holy Spirit who indwells you.
